Duck tape man

Duck Tape Man, or is that Duct Tape Man--I think it can be either, but I usually think duck tape, which I have no idea why because no one is taping ducks and I don't believe ducks went into the manufacture of this tape, or at least I pray they weren't used to make duck tape.

So Duck Tape Man was I. Constructed by me, this crazy duck tape suit served as a Halloween costume. Not easy to make, but not too difficult either. I just made sheets of duck tape putting the tape back to back, and then constructed this suit with those sheets, not extremly comfy, but it was Halloween many are not cozy. No raeal fabric in the entire suit. I did wear a T-shirt and underwear, but it was too warm for much else even in late October. Also I duck taped an old pair of water shoes.

Much better than many of my other costumes in later years --Mel from Alice, boxing writer Bert Sugar, Stan the mustachioed man. I may try it again some year and go as the Tin Man. That's what Julia wanted me to do last year, but I didn't get it made.

I just want to shoot par!

When I was playing my first round of disc golf in Olathe (Prairie Center) the other night, I ran into another person playing alone, so we started playing together (god, I hope that doesn’t sound too gay). OK, so he was much longer than I am (OMG, this does sound so gay, but who cares) and I was throwing so-so, but I was doing this weird body contortion thing where I throw too much with my arms and not enough with my entire body. So he tried to give me some tips, but then I even threw worse, but I got what he was trying to tell me and now it is just incorporating those ideas into my hurl. Bring the disc across my body and keeping it level and pulling through the body, not way out here and there. So I will practice, and hopefully practice will make me better. I really enjoy playing this game, but I have so much room for improvement. Maybe if I truly take these ideas to heart and incorporate them into my game, I can improve. I just want to shoot par!

My Memorial Day Weekend Wrap-Up

Just a few quick notes about this weekend -- a 3-day weekend. Friday I went to a baseball game, a semi-pro Independent League game at the Community America Ballpark in KCK -- the T-Bones lost. We had a fine time, went with Jo's co-workers, well some of them. We tailgated for a bit before hand, nothing too exciting with some semi-drunk teachers. Saturday and Sunday were spent at the Jiggle Jam Family Fun Fest -- I volunteered a portion of my time. I got reassigned to Stroller Patrol -- helping families carry stroller up about 12 steps to the main tent. I got a good workout, which for me is a good thing. I need more workouts to keep my body limber, strong, and I wish, thin. (I'm not yet obsessed with this weight thing, but soon I will be) So I carried strollers and listened to great music by the likes of Dino O'Dell, Trout Fishing in America, Funky Mama, Justin Roberts and of course, our (Julia and mine's) all-time favorite, Jim "Mr. Stinky Feet" Cosgrove. I took a break on Saturday afternoon and played almost a complete round of disc golf at Swope ... met up with some cool guys (Ben and Jerry, not of ice cream fame) and shot fairly well. Then afterwards we returned to the Jiggle Jam just in time to catch the headliner act - They Might Be Giants. It was great listening to TMBG, with Julia on my shoulders. Even with the sun beating down and sweat rolling down my face, I had a great time. It was probably the highlight of the weekend. Monday, we had a graduation/birthday party with family and it was about time we all got together again and celebrated something. My brother, who is 17 years my junior, graduated from high school this year, and I still have one brother who is just getting ready to start high school next year. So that's the quick synopsis and overall I would rate it well, maybe 3.5 stars out of 4 or give it a 8 on a 10-point scale.

If Emily can do it, so can I

I feel the need to post. I just read Emily Gould's first piece for the New York Times Magazine about her life as blogger and her work at Gawker, and it made me yearn for having a more public and exposed life. Here is a link to her blog -- Emily Magazine. She says she blogs so I don't have to, but that is not true. Now I too much blog. So I blog again. Way too long between posts and no one is reading anyways, but someday, it will be read, I promise. I will promote myself. I will put my true self out there for you to read about. But you don't know me, and that is because I have wrapped myself in aluminum foil, and it reflects all the radio waves that were trying to read my thoughts. But today I will remove the foil. This is me and it's not necessarily very pretty. I am chubby -- I almost said fat, but I don't want to admit that. I am slow; if I can keep up a 10 minute mile pace, I'm doing good. Slow witted, might have been what I meant, too. I hate to call myself that, but I am at times a little dim. I would like to think of myself as funny, but no one ever laughs with me, maybe at me but with me seldom. But I have time to change all of this. So today is the start of a new life; why does it seem like I say this at least once a month. Well it is my new life. Nothing extraordinary life changing has happened in the past 24, 48 or even 72 hours for that matter, but if I state it is the first day of the rest of my life, well then by golly it is.

Go Get 'em Barry: Obama wins Missouri

And so it looks as if Barry Obama has won the Democratic primary in Missouri. Wow, my last minute decision to vote for him over Hillary was important, well sort of. It's not like he won by one vote or something, but it was several thousand people like me who probably pushed him over the edge. I had been in the Edwards camp for most of the primary season, and I was actauly still thinking about casting a vote for him even though he had dropped out of the primary, but then at the 11th hour I decided to vote for Obama because ... well, I'm really not certain. I think Hillary has better plans, well at least a better health care plan if you choose to believe Paul Krugman of the NY Times and I do tend to believe him. But my vote went beyond issues and instead focused on vision, and I think Barack has a better vision for this country. I just hope he can win the general election. And so my primary season is over for the presidential election and I have to wait and see what the final outcome will be, but for now I'm in the Obama corner.
BTW, did you see they had this football game on Sunday called the Super Bowl? Wow, it was a pretty cool game under the big lights. I actaully was not too interested in this game, but I was sort of pulling for the Giants because for some reason I didn't want to see the Patriots go undefeated for the season, and well it turned out to be a heck of a game, and that is about all I can say. I can't wait for a time that I am really interested in watching a Super Bowl because my team, the Kansas City Chiefts, are in the game. I hope some day there is that day.
